EmpowerAI Project Kicks Off Drafting of Ethical AI Guidelines for Higher Education

We are pleased to announce that the EmpowerAI project has officially begun the development of its Guidelines for the Ethical Use of AI in Higher Education Institutions.

During our latest online meeting on March 28, 2025, representatives from all partner institutions discussed the structure, content, and direction of the forthcoming guidelines. The document will provide clear, practical, and evidence-based recommendations for academic staff on the responsible integration of AI tools—such as large language models and chatbots—into teaching and learning.

The proposed structure includes an introduction, background and goals, key definitions, guiding principles and values, as well as practical recommendations and a checklist. The consortium also decided to distribute sections of the guidelines among partners to ensure consistency and timely completion. Insights gathered from focus groups, mapping reports, and literature reviews will form the foundation of this work.

The guidelines are expected to be finalized by mid-2025, marking a major milestone in our effort to support ethical AI adoption in universities across Europe.

Stay tuned for updates as we move forward in shaping a responsible digital future for academic education!
